Asbestos Management Surveys
What Is an Asbestos Management Survey?
An asbestos management survey is designed to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, asbestos-containing materials that could be disturbed or damaged during normal occupation, maintenance and everyday activities. Materials suspected of containing asbestos are sampled where appropriate and analysed by a UKAS-accredited laboratory using Polarised Light Microscopy (PLM).
The condition of identified materials is also assessed, allowing appropriate recommendations to be made for their ongoing management. An asbestos management survey is generally non-intrusive, meaning it does not normally involve extensive destructive inspection. It is therefore often possible to carry out the survey while a building remains occupied, subject to the nature and use of the property.
What we find
What Does an Asbestos Management Survey Identify?
Our asbestos surveyors inspect accessible areas and building elements to identify materials that may contain asbestos. Where suspect materials are identified and sampling is appropriate, samples are carefully taken for laboratory analysis.
This information can then be used to support an asbestos register and asbestos management plan, helping those responsible for a building meet their duty to manage asbestos.
The resulting report provides information such as:
- The location of asbestos-containing materials
- The type and extent of each material
- Laboratory analysis results
- The condition of identified ACMs
- The accessibility of the materials
- Recommendations for ongoing management
- Areas or materials that could not be accessed
